SR400M Water Projects Enhance Pilgrim Services in Western Saudi Arabia

JEDDAH: The National Water Co.’s Western Cluster completing 18 vital projects valued at SR400 million ($106 million).

These projects aim to enhance water and environmental services for residents, visitors, and the millions of pilgrims expected during Hajj.

The upgrades focus on boosting operational efficiency, expanding network coverage, and improving real-time monitoring capabilities to ensure a sustainable and reliable water supply during peak pilgrimage hours.

Key infrastructure developments include the construction of a 190,000-cubic meter steel water tank and the rehabilitation of water storage facilities, main pipelines, valve rooms, and distribution networks.

Operational improvements feature the installation of advanced monitoring systems such as pressure gauges, meters, and network sensors, alongside modernization of pumps and isolation valves across water, wastewater, fire, and cooling systems.

Over 1,200 technical, engineering, and administrative staff have been deployed to maintain uninterrupted water service throughout the Hajj season, with round-the-clock supply guaranteed to the Prophet’s Mosque and other significant religious and historical sites in Madinah.

To ensure water quality, all storage units and connections to pilgrim accommodations undergo rigorous testing by teams at central and mobile laboratories capable of analyzing over 1,000 water samples daily.

Additionally, water flow in Madinah’s central area will be managed through a smart operation system linked to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) monitoring and control room, enabling real-time oversight throughout the pilgrimage period.

These comprehensive measures reflect the Kingdom’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and reliable water services during one of the world’s largest annual gatherings.
